Mech design:

I cannot stop thinking about this mech. The entire movie was fantastic. Critics are raving, for good reasons. This movie came together in more ways than one. Since we are all Mech lovers and critics of everything mech, lets discuss this beautiful mech.

I think it goes without saying that the Mech is the best of both Eastern mech design philosophy and the angular Western design. There is a strong Anime feel to the over all look and feel. The cockpit reminds me a lot of Apple seed though there are many other mechs which use the same kind of layout. But i loved the snug fit feel where the mech truly becomes the extension of the person driving it. Not too big or small, the mech was well proportioned for what it seemed designed for. A frontline conbat vehicle. To the Aliens though it may have been a simple sentry, but it seemed to be loaded with goodies.

The first scene where the mech holds all the bullets fired at it in a field levitating in front of it was not only cool but activated by the mechs own defensive AI. The pilot was protected without much interfacing as long as the mech had a DNA match with the newly mutated human. That was a pretty good idea.

We will not discuss the little ship that was used to save the alien race from their humanly bondage but even that was a pretty cool rustic and believable design. The best sequences were without a doubt the heads up display interfacing with the user. Again there was not one thing that did not feel right about the movie and about the mech. I hope District 10 will be equally impressive if not better. Also, as much as i love to see lots of mech, the fact that there was only one allowed the creators to focus on all the aspects of one design fully, and i hope that stays in District 10 (which we do not know whether it is in the making, this is just a fans wish that may come true).

Everyone who has not yet seen it, do not waste another second thinking about it. This movie is a must watch and a must have once out on DVD. Go fill the theaters with your appreciation and let the Directors know what we want from them!
